This December, we proudly celebrate the graduation of the second intake of students from the Bakhita English Institute (BEI) Level 1 English course – BEI0002. This cohort represents another important milestone in BEI’s growing journey, demonstrating both strong community demand for English education and the determination of Timorese learners to build skills for work, study, and future opportunities.
The BEI0002 cohort completed a rigorous 100-hour Level 1 English course, covering speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and practical workplace English. Students were assessed across multiple components, including coursework, participation, and final exams, ensuring results reflected consistent effort and real language development.

- Many students scored in the 70–95% range, showing solid comprehension and growing confidence in English.

- Range of results: from foundational learners building confidence to high achievers preparing for further study and employment pathways.
These results highlight something we see every day at BEI: students come with different starting points, but with consistent teaching, support, and determination, meaningful progress is possible for everyone. For some students, this was their very first structured English course. For others, it was a stepping stone toward further levels, PALM program preparation, or future employment opportunities.
Beyond the numbers, what stood out most in this cohort was the commitment and perseverance shown by students balancing study with work, family responsibilities, and long travel distances. Attendance, participation, and peer support were strong, creating a learning environment where students encouraged one another to keep going — even when English felt challenging.
As we celebrate the graduation of BEI0002, we are proud of every student who completed the course and grateful to our teachers and staff who supported them throughout the journey. With each graduating cohort, BEI continues to strengthen its role in providing high-quality, employment-focused English education in Timor-Leste.
